The Fire Operations division will ensure that our fire fighters are trained to the established standards and available for service 24 hours a day without hesitation.
We strive to maintain an awareness for changes and updates to fire fighting techniques to help us improve ourselves and service to the community. The instructors are up to date on current training and attend seminars and conferences to increase their awareness of new ideology for the fire service. The department trains on a regular basis to include daily in-house training as well as training out in the community.
The fire operations division does review each incident to identify areas of potential improvement as well as highlighting areas of success. By doing this, we can improve our techniques and help our personnel improve through training.
Our goal is to provide the best training possible to improve our readiness and response times to incidents.

The Swanton Fire & Rescue Department has created a Fire Prevention Bureau with the purposes of establishing an annual and semi-annual fire safety inspection program using the current Ohio Fire Codes in all commercial, retail, and industrial facilities within the Village of Swanton.
The Fire Prevention Bureau consists of one part time (24 hours a week) certified fire inspector who will conduct these fire safety inspections.
The fire safety inspections will be conducted either on an annual basis or semi-annual basis depending on risk assessment factors. High risk facilities will be inspected semi-annually (every 6 months) and low risk facilities will be inspected annually (once a year). Any code violations found will be listed on a report and a copy of them given to property owner or the property owner’s agent. They will be given an amount of time for the violations to be corrected and a re-inspection scheduled to assure they have been corrected. During these fire safety inspections, the inspector creates and updates a key holder list. This will allow access to the facility if it is needed after normal business hours.
The purpose of establishing a Fire Prevention Bureau is to assure that any and all facilities within the Village of Swanton remains free of any fire or life safety hazards.
The Swanton Fire Department plans to require all their department officers to become a certified Fire Safety Inspector and encourage any other crew members to become certified as well.
Future plans are to have the duty crews create pre incident plans of each facility in their responding district which also allows them to become familiar with the layout, hazard locations, utilities, and access points. This information will then be installed into the CAD system for incident references.
